How to Balance Improving Strengths and Fixing Weaknesses

What are your weaknesses? What are your strengths?

For most people, answering the first question is easy…but answering the second question takes more thought. We are all highly aware of our weaknesses but not many of us are as aware of our strengths. For some of us, we might not even know what our strengths are.

Each of us has natural gifts and abilities stored in our core which we either consciously or unconsciously rely on as we progress through life. But growing up, we are all taught that to improve, we need to fix what is lacking and spend hours and hours improving it until it is on par with everything else. This is why we are so highly attuned to our weaknesses. We spend most of our time and energy on them and save very little to fine-tune and master the things we’re innately gifted at. But what happens if we stop spending so much time on our weaknesses and place more focus on our strengths?

Focusing on Strengths

Science and research shows that when we put more emphasis on our strengths, our quality of life and performance greatly improves. Emphasizing your strengths but still working on your weaknesses allows you to live in a way that best resonates with who you are and live more purposefully through using your best qualities and attributes.

If you’re one of the people who’s unsure as to what your strengths are, put some time aside to find them. If you’re one of the many people who’s spending most of your time on your flaws, cut back and place more emphasis on improving your strengths. Improve your strengths and use them to live a life that resonates more with who you are.
