Championship Mindset Series: There are No Re-Do’s
There are No Re-Do’s
Your alarm clock goes off. It says 4am. You know you have to get up because you planned a workout at 5am. But your bed feels too good, your still sore from yesterday’s workout, and the thought of leaving the comfort of your bed and pushing through that pain seems like a lot. Missing one workout couldn’t hurt that much, right?
Maybe missing this workout won’t make a difference in the grand scheme of things. Or maybe it will. How do you know? We can’t. But there is one thing that's for certain…if you miss this workout, you can’t take it back. Ever. There are no re-do’s. In our training, in our competition, or in life.
Here’s the thing, if you miss a workout, if you decide to workout but only put in a half-assed effort, those are missed opportunities for improvement that you’ll never get back. Sure you can train hard the next day, but that doesn’t make up for the day you already missed or the less than maximum effort you put in. No matter what, for the rest of your life, you can’t re-do that workout. Who knows, it might not matter for the big picture, but there’s an equal chance that it will. It is absolutely important if you are to truly try your hardest to be your best and achieve all that you set out for that you ALWAYS give it everything you got. Rest days are important, but a rest day is not a planned workout day that you choose to take off because you don’t feel like it. A rest day is a planned day of active recovery, not a spur of the moment decision of weakness.
Taking it a Step Further…
Towards competition, facing every opponent with the same maximum effort is crucial. If you give any less and for one reason or another lose, that opponent for the rest of his or her life will have a victory over you. Yes, you can beat them the next time, but it doesn’t make up for the time they beat you. They will have that victory over you for the rest of eternity.
Every time you lace up your shoes, whether it’s for competition, training, or just everyday life, give it your best no matter what. Giving anything less than your best at any point takes away from the true potential you could be achieving.
Never, under any circumstance, give anything less than the best you got.
