Life Lessons from Wrestling: Expect It To Be Difficult

“Expect it to be difficult…”

I heard these words when I was in college and it changed my outlook on life permanently.

Most of you reading this probably do not know my backstory, but my life has been far from easy and simple.

I hated how much I had to fight to survive. I taught myself how to fight… I had to learn. But I didn’t like to fight.

When I got into college where every match was a dog fight, I knew how to win but it took its toll.

Why?

Because deep down I was looking for easy points. I didn’t like to fight.

I hadn’t yet learned that the glory of getting your hand raised when you’re bruised and bloodied feels so much more amazing than getting it raised without having to struggle for it.

I didn’t train for that expectation, but after I heard those words…I did.

The hardship no longer felt difficult. Difficult became normal and easy felt like a waste of time.

Embracing the fight and making it my mindset changed the way I lived my life, and instead of everything feeling like fighting off the end…everything felt like the beginning of something great.

Your outlook, your mindset guides your reality.

Expect it to be difficult and difficult won’t be difficult anymore.
