Championship Mindset Series: Fight Mentality

In today’s world, what it means to be called competitive and a fighter is heavily influenced by what we see on TV and social media from UFC fighters, boxers, professional athletes, and anyone else at the top level of their sport. Trash talk is abundant, the disrespect is high, and when the fight comes the fans are most of the time disappointed with the lack of action and grit. So if all the words and remarks don’t equal to a person having fight when it counts, what does?

What does it mean to have a true fight mentality?

4 Parts of a True Fight Mentality

  1. Have a Drive to Perform

Keep pushing the limits and score as many points as possible. Competing is way more fun when you get to open up your arsenal. As long as there is time on the clock and breath in my body, I am going to keep going, keep moving, and keep looking to score.

  2. Look to Dominate

Crush your opponent's hope for victory in this and every future matchup and make it so they never want to face you again. Dominance can only happen by continually pushing the boundary to a point your opponent is not willing to go.

  3. Welcome Adversity

Don't look for the easiest way…only the best way. Often times, the best way requires fighting through a hard position and putting forth more effort than before. A true fighter thrives when situations get difficult and welcomes them because they make competing much more meaningful and fun.

  4. Live for the Fight

Compete to test your limits, not for prizes, titles, or to put others down. Because true fighters are focused solely on the fight, they feel no need to tell others they are “better than” or what they are going to do. They know words do not equate to fight and are essentially meaningless in terms of who will come out on top in a real battle.

Overall, a person with a true fight mentality WANTS tough matches to test their limits and use their fullest potential. Competing is fun when you get to be your truest self, and the only way to be that is by finding an opponent who will bring that out of you. It’s important to always look beyond surface level, and in today’s world of media it is difficult to do. But when you truly measure someone by how they train and compete and discount everything else, you will find how much fight they truly have.
